Persistence is not giving up when the going gets tough because you want to reach your goals. Persistence is the sustained effort necessary to induce faith that you can make it!!
The 19th-century writer Napoleon Hill explains in his famous book Think and Grow Rich how to develop persistence in 4 steps:
1. Envision a definite purpose
2. Imagine a definite plan
3. Keep a mind closed tightly against all negative and discouraging influences
4. Cultivate a friendly alliance with one or more persons who will encourage you to follow through 🥇🥇🥇
I find that this poem from Toon Tellegen very well explains what persistence is.

A girl
She waits.
No, she thinks, I’m not waiting,
I’m dancing.
She dances,
She dances with long, delicate steps,
slow and intent,
she keeps her eyes shut,
she dances through doors and through windows
and through long-enduring days –
wood, glass and hours fall in splinters around her –
and each time she can no longer keep up
and nearly, almost falls,
she thinks: Me?
I’m not falling, I’m dancing.
The original is in Dutch “Een meisje“.
